Week 13 work on your final Assignment

1. This week you can continue work on your final assignment.
2. A final quiz will be given on the last week of term worth 20%. The quiz will be 20 questions on Photo composition/ camera use/ lighting/ Photoshop/ and Oh&S.

Brief
Explore Photoshop by using as many of the tools you have discovered from the work sheet provided to create the weirdest most bizarre image you can.
Direction
1. Observe a quick demonstration from your teacher covering Photoshop basics.
2. Follow the exercises from the Photoshop work sheet hand out.
3. Explore Photoshop by using as many of the tools you have discovered from the work sheet to create the weirdest most bizarre image you can.
You can manipulate an existing image or create one from scratch.
Use this exercise to explore Photoshop or show off your existing skills.
4. Save your final image as a JPG and post it to your Blog.
5. Comment upon your image and list the tools you used.

Save as a PSD into your student folder titled ‘first image’
Save a flattened JPG copy into your student folder titled ‘first image’
Upload the jpg copy to your blog, label it and comment upon it.


2. Colourising
Brief
Colour a black and white image with realistic colours

Direction

1. Follow a demonstration from your teacher on colourising a grey scale image incorporating the brush tool, brush size, layers, colour selection, opacity and layer mode.
2. Use realistic colour to colour the grey scale image given to you by your teacher located on the public drive in the class folder.
3. Repeat the process with your own selected black and white image.

Submission
Save as a PSD into your student folder titled ‘colour’
Save a flattened JPG copy into your student folder titled ‘colour’
Upload the jpg copy to your blog, label it and comment upon it.


3. Clone tool exercise
Brief
Practice the clone tool and alter two images using the clone tool a
Direction
Follow the demonstration from your teacher complete the Clone tool exercises located in the public drive in class folder.
Find two images that you can alter with the clone tool.
Submission
Save the images and exercises (before/ after).
Save a flattened JPG copy into your student folder titled ‘clone tool’
Upload the jpg copies to your blogs, label them and comment upon it.

4. Layers exercise
Brief
Merge layers in Photoshop to create a layered composition of a chosen theme.
Direction
1. After a demonstration from your teacher complete the layers exercise.
2. Using the images supplied create an abstract layered composition.
3. Collect images that relate to a selected theme, the images can come from the internet or they can be photos you have taken yourself.
4. Create a new canvas in Photoshop 21 cm x 29.7cm 300 (pixels/inch)  
5. Select your chosen images and paste them across to your A4 page.
6. Transform to the desired size and merge to create your own abstract layered composition.

Save as a PSD into your student folder titled ‘layers’
Save a flattened JPG copy into your student folder titled ‘layers’
Upload the jpg copy to your blog, label it and comment upon it.

5. Selection exercise
Brief
Using the pen tool select objects and paste them on to a page with a black background.

Direction
1.       Follow the demonstration by your teacher on the selection tools in Photoshop.
2.       Follow the link below for a repeat on how to use the pen tool for selection in Photoshop.

3.       On the public drive in the class folder is a document with a list of shortcuts used with the pen tool. Open it for reference.
4.       In the same class folder is an image titled circle.jpg. Open it into Photoshop. 
5.       Create a new canvas in Photoshop 21 cm x 29.7cm 300 (pixels/inch) and use the fill tool to create a black background.
6.        Using the pen tool select the circle from the ‘circle’ image, convert the path formed by the pen tool into a selection and then copy and paste it across to your new canvas with the black background.
7.       Check to see you have made a correct selection. If there is white showing try again.
8.       Repeat for all the other images in the folder then try your own images.
9.       Have a go at using the other selection tools to select the practice images but only paste across your pen tool selection. You must get proficient with the pen tool.

6. Exercise -Visual Pun Composits
Using your pen tool and selection skills combine two or more images to depict a visual pun.
Planning:             Make up a list of some possible puns such as: strong box, watch dog, coat of arms, six feet underground, shoe tree, navel orange, and light house. Visualize an image from these words. (A box with muscles, a watch in shape of dog head, etc.) Look through samples file or gather other potential images. Complete 2 thumbnails of ideas. Get checked off by.
Document:         Set up a Photoshop document 5” x 7” or 7” x 5” with a resolution of 100 dpi, RGB. Save your image with into your own work folder. Selections will be made from multiple images and put into this file. Canvas size can be enlarged or cropped to meet the needs of the image. Keep all associated images used and save the finished products as a jpgs and post them to your blog.
Description:        Students will create visual representation of selected pun or words that sound alike. Masks and the pen tool skills are to be incorporated in the process. Write down steps describing tools and techniques used

7. Composite image from your own photographs
1. Follow a demonstration from your teacher on/ Taking photographs for your composite image/ Refine selection command/smudge edges/burn tool for shadow.
2. Pair up and with your camera in turn capture at least 5 exact copies of the same selected scene. In each photo place yourself in a different position depicting a different action.
3. Download the images to your student folder for the subject and open them into Photoshop.
4. Use the pen tool to select yourself out of 4 (or more) of the photos, then copy & paste them on to the final photo chosen to be your composition.
5. Use the Burn tool to create shadow and the smudge & blur tool to soften the edges of your selections.
Submission
Save a copy of the final image as a PSD with full layers intact and post a jpg copy to your blog.

8. Text Placement
1. Follow a demonstration from your teacher on Text attributes, placement and clarity
2. Create a poster that includes both image and text placement.
3. It needs to be A4 at 300dpi and contain the following information.

9. Photo Assignment Mail Box– Using your own camera, capture at least 15 different images of a mail box. Think about how many ways you can capture the mail box and bring the images to class.

2.       Partner up and take three photos of each other (or an object) using the bracketing function on the camera to be used next week.

1.       Follow a demonstration from your teacher on HDR images.
2.       Create your own HDR Images from the shoot last week.

Save a copy of the final image as a PSD with full layers intact and post a jpg copy to your blog.



12. Final Assignment - Final Photo composition

Week 12 HDR Images Final Assignment

Type a proposal for your final assignment.

1.        Follow a demonstration from your teacher on creating your own filter in Photoshop.

2.       From your mail box shoot select three images that stand out but also have variety.

Definitions
Visual Puns: Visual pun is the use of symbols to suggest two or more meanings or different associations. Visual puns combine two or more symbols (picture and/or text) to form a new meaning. The viewer must mentally elaborate on the visual stimulus to interpret the message
Visual Puns: Creating an artwork in which several visual forms which look alike (thinking by appearance in the right hemisphere) are connected and combined so as to bring out two or more possible meaningful ideas in a humorous way.
